Book of Revelation
Basic Overview

Basic Outline of John's Four Visions

This outline focuses on the four main visions of John when he said he was “In the Spirit”. Each time he was taken into the Spirit, he was shown the will of God, and the great events that must take place in the Revelation of Jesus.

I’ve outlined the Book of Revelation into six different parts. These six parts cover all chapters from one to twenty two.

1. Prologue - His Introduction. (Revelation 1:1-8)

2. Vision 1 - The Lord’s Day. (Revelation 1:9 - Revelation 3)

3. Vision 2 - The Heavenly Trial. (Revelation 4 - Revelation 16)

4. Vision 3 - The Final Judgment. (Revelation 17 - Revelation 21:8)

5. Vision 4 - A New Government. (Revelation 21:9 - Revelation 22:5)

6. Epilogue - His Final Words.  (Revelation 22:6-21)

A short summary to get started: The Revelation of Jesus Christ is about the Lord’s Day. Jesus Christ is revealed as the true King and leader of the New Heavenly Government. This book takes you through Four Main Visions that John received “In the Spirit” on the Lord’s day. With the assistance of the Angel of the Lord, John is shown the things that are, and the things that must shortly come to pass in the churches, and is commanded to write what He sees in a book and send it to the seven churches in Asia.

First, Jesus is revealed as the glorified Christ. The Alpha and Omega, the Almighty. When His glory is revealed in the Churches, their hidden sin is manifested and they are ready for the man of sin to be fully revealed and judged. From there, the council in heaven begins to put the inhabitants of the earth on trial, accusing them of sin and manifesting their guilt against God and His servants, through plagues.

After they are all found guilty and sentenced to death, it’s judgment time. God destroys all the superpowers and finishes His judgments and all things are made new. When the final judgment is done, a new government is established in heaven and on the earth. God now abides with His creation forever and ever, and they will reign with Him forever.

Note: We know that the book of Revelation is filled with many visions and even visions within visions. Therefore sometimes it’s hard to know when one vision ends and another vision starts. In this overview we focus on the four main visions as stated above. As you get familiar with the text of scripture we trust that the Lord will reveal all things to you according to His Spirit of truth. There are many people who outline this book differently, but no matter how you outline this book, the key to understanding it is to be in the Spirit with the Lord and let Him reveal these things in you as a believer of God. This outline is how it was revealed to us.

Let’s answer a few questions.

What is the Book of Revelation? The Revelation of Jesus Christ, Who is the Lamb of God. This revelation is about His day of victory and the reuniting and restoration of His kingdom. Jesus is the One True King that will rule and reign with all His saints in this great kingdom.

Who gave this revelation?

  • God, Who gave it to Jesus.

  • Jesus, Who sent His angel to show it to His servant John.

  • John, who wrote what he saw in a book and sent it to the 7 churches.

Who is this revelation to? The servants of the Lord.

Why did God give this revelation? To show His servants the things that are, and the things that must soon take place in the churches. He shows John these things in 4 Main Visions.

2. THE LORD’S DAY (Vision 1)

Vision 1 Summary.

First, Jesus is revealed as the glorified Christ. The Alpha and Omega, the Almighty. This is the Day of the Lord, when His glory is revealed in the Churches, and their hidden sin is made known and manifested for the purpose of judgment to the wicked and salvation in His saints.

The Lord’s day is not complete until all evil and rebellion is judged and destroyed, and He is glorified in His saints and His kingdom is finished (2 Thessalonians 1:6-10). By revealing Himself, He makes known the will of God in righteousness and truth. In doing so, it not only shows what true glory and righteousness is, but also reveals everything that is other than Him. This prepares the way for Him to judge whatever is not born of Him.

3. THE HEAVENLY TRIAL (Vision 2)

Vision 2 Summary.

From there, the council in heaven begins to put the inhabitants of the earth on trial, Satan being the head of all the evil and corruption. The Lamb accuses them of sin against God and His servants, whom they have persecuted and killed since the beginning of the world. In the Heavenly Trial, as prophesied in Daniel 7, the Lamb is glorified as the head of the heavenly council and begins to bring righteous judgment against the inhabitants of the earth. This judgment is for the purpose of manifesting their guilt before the council and all the world. He does this by opening the sealed scroll and releasing plagues upon the earth.

These plagues are not only meant to expose the wickedness in the earth, but also reveal the ones that will not repent, even when God’s wrath is poured out upon them. While this is happening the saints are told to resist being marked with another name, and are sealed with the name of God, so that they can be preserved from the tribulation of the plagues. The council exposes the guilty and condemns them to death.

4. THE FINAL JUDGMENT (Vision 3)

Vision 3 Summary.

After the inhabitants of the earth are all found guilty and sentenced to death, it’s time to bring an end to all the wickedness that has persecuted God’s kingdom and all who are a part of it. In the Final Judgment God destroys all the superpowers, which are the authorities in high places of the spirit that seduce souls to serve other gods. One by one He destroys all the powers that have filled their bellies with the blood of the prophets and saints. The harlot city Babylon is destroyed, the beast and false prophet are cast alive into the lake of fire and finally Satan is put in the Lake of fire to be tormented forever.

Now the heavens can finally rejoice and calls for the marriage of the Lamb and His bride. Those who suffered death by these powers are now avenged by God’s great power and are now free to live without persecution and death. He then finishes His judgments upon all the souls in death, hell and the sea, sending all those who have done evil by their works, to the lake of fire. After it is all cleansed, He makes all things new by making a new heaven and a new earth. The earth is now set up for His new government that will reign in the earth, and only those found in the Lamb’s book of life can live there.

6. EPILOGUE (Final Words)

Revelation 22:6-21

And He said unto me, These sayings are faithful and true: and the Lord God of the holy prophets sent His angel to show unto His servants the things which must shortly be done. Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keeps the sayings of the prophecy of this book.

And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which showed me these things. Then said he unto me, You must not do that, for I am your fellow servant, and of your brothers the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God. And he said to me, Do not seal up the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand.

He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.

And, behold, I come quickly; and My reward is with Me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

I Am

  • Alpha and Omega.

  • The Beginning and the End.

  • The First and the Last.

Blessed are they that do His commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loves and makes a lie.

I, Jesus have sent my angel to testify unto you these things in the churches

I Am

  • The Root and the Offspring of David

  • The Bright and Morning Star.

And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that hears say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

For I testify unto every man that hears the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

He which testifies these things says, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.

You cannot just read the book of Revelation, you have to See it!
